So you'll want to be sure that the photos are transferred at the time you're taking them. Not later, when you're at another location.

is there a way for me to take pictures using my eye.fi card while leaving my ipad at home

return home, use direct mode and have my pictures tagged at the location of the shoot and not my house?

Only if you have an Eye-Fi card that supports geotagging out in the field and use that feature (you'll need Internet access for that. Could be an iPhone with Personal Hotspot enabled or a portable router). And then when you get home and unload to ShutterSnitch, not having it update that geo-metadata.

Awww and here I was thinking I was so smart

So the steps are...

Turn on mywi on my iPhone

Use my pro x2 card (allow it time to find my hotspot say leave both camera and phone on for 2 mins then start shooting)

Drive back home

Make sure geo action is turned off on SS

Connect iPad to eye.fi network

Upload and enjoy

Is this correct?

Yes, that should work. Try it out (preferably before relying on it to work for a big assignment ;)

What kind of iPhone do you have?

You could also just install ShutterSnitch on that, fire up MyWi (or Personal Hotspot if you have an iPhone 4/4S) and let the iPhone+ShutterSnitch receive the photos and geo tag them on the spot.

Since uploading it to the iPhone will use GPS it will be more accurate than the Eye-Fi Card.

so how does Eye-Fi’s Geotagging Service work?
Geotagging is made possible through Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) technology. Using built-in Wi-Fi, the Eye-Fi Card senses surrounding Wi-Fi networks as you take pictures. When photos are wirelessly uploaded, the Eye-Fi Service then adds the geotags to your photos.

Ok so I did a test last night took my camera to the gym

Turned on mywi and my camera for two mins took two pics

Turned them both off came home direct mode to iPad

Made sure geo action was off

No gps data

Today will be test two :

I set up my card to work the way eye.fi wants (it can send pics to the computer it's attached to my home network)

Gonna turn mywi and camera on for the entire car ride

Take some shots

Drive to a new place

Direct mode to iPad

Let's see what happens

Is installing ShutterSnitch on your iPhone, and having that geotag them, not an option? You don't have to pay again when installing across (5) devices with your Apple-ID.

You'll get much more precise location info. And it's easy to later transfer the photos to ShutterSnitch on your iPad via Bonjour.

(About the middle of this page ..and in your case, you'd be looking at the phone-interface, seeing your iPad down there.)

Tell me if that's an option, and I can do a step-by-step guide here for you, if you need it!

Direct mode to iPad

That is not going to work. The Eye-Fi Cards do not collect a location, they collect the raw data to translate into a location. As such to geotag using Eye-Fi's built in geotagging you must upload via a standard wifi network that has access to Eye-Fi's servers so that data can be sent and translated into a location and then writen into the EXIF. ShutterSnitch allows you to not only bypass that but also use the more accurate GPS, instead of the Eye-Fi Cards WPS, but you will need to be uploading at the location to have the correct location data.

thanks Brew
yes i have SS on my phone but my clients really love seeing the images pop up on the lager ipad screen

and i also use it to cheat... i mean fine tune to shutter speed due to lighting which is a real help (saves time in post)

thanks MaddawgJ

so pretty much the answer is just take my 3g ipad with me where ever i shoot

direct mode into SS with the geo tag action on

use my iphone tether to doduble check the geo location on the file in SS

correct?
