shuttersnitch reading from another FTP server?

I am interested in using ShutterSnitch for studio and event shoots with a Nikon WiFi transmitter to replace my current method of client proofing (client views images on a large LCD monitor and I control my laptop to show them images).

My problem is that I shoot RAW and I would be nervous relying on a WiFi connection and a single iPad to store my images as my primary destination (I normally shoot tethered into Adobe Lightroom and have continuous backups as I go through the day). Is there any way for ShutterSnitch to read images not direct from my camera but from an FTP server that I could set up on my Mac laptop?

Hi Raf,

Sorry but ShutterSnitch actually works the other way around - it's an FTP server ready to receive photos. It doesn't pull photos. The photos aren't removed from your camera (unless you configure the transmitter to do so).

Also, the current version of the app doesn't support displaying of the RAW files - that will be a feature of the 2.0 release.

I also would like this same functionality for it to retrieve files from another server.
We FTP files to a PC for someone to check and pick out the select images. I can't lose this part of my setup.
I would just want snitch to grab those same files to view.
On another thread you mentioned having an FTP server send out the images to Snitch.
Do you know which PC based FTP server would have that functionality? None of mine seem to.
If a MAC one will do it, that is alo possible.

I can give you a quick solution for Mac. You'll need the latest Transmit app and set up Folder Actions.

1. Unzip the attached file and save it to /Library/Scripts/Folder Action Scripts/
2. Open the script (double click it. This will not run it, but open the editor). Edit the server, port, username, and password so you'll connect to your ShutterSnitch. Press Cmd+K to compile and Cmd+S to save it.
3. Right click the folder that you receive your images to and pick "Configure Folder Actions" at the bottom.
4. Select the SnitchTransmit4Upload script.
5. That should be it. Whenever a new file is saved into the folder on your Mac, Transmit will upload it to ShutterSnitch.

For the PC, FileWatcher should be able to do something similar.

Transmit isn't free, and I'm sure that someone can whip up a free solution using a bash script, but I don't have the time sorry..

[UPDATE] I made a modified version of the script that only uploads JPEGs and ignores other files that are put in the folder (such as RAW files).

I've downloaded your folder action but when my eye-fi card add a new picture to the folder nothing happens.
When I add a new picture in the folder to finder it works fine.
Do you have an idea what the problem might be.
Because i want the pictures on my Mac and my iPad.

Weird.. Well, one way to get around it would be to enable the FTP server on your Mac (System settings > Sharing > File sharing > Advanced) and transfer all photos by tapping the export button to the far left in the toolbar. "Stretch" the filmstrip with two fingers to select all and pick "Export" to other location. If you're within range of your Mac, it should show up in the Bonjour section. Tap it and fill in the username and password you use when you log in to your computer.

I know it's not exactly a perfect solution.. And I think a lot of users want to keep a sync between ShutterSnitch and their computer - so I'm thinking about how to make a nice sync-app for the computer that could do it automatically. ..if only I had more hours in the day.. :)

I would like to try to get this working as well... The goal: Have my macbook upload via FTP to shuttersnitch enabled iPad whenever a file is added to a desktop folder. In some shooting / client situations it would be wonderful to be able to do this (client holds ipad with shuttersnitch, while we add images to macbook folder, or alternatively, have a cable-tethered camera (not eye-fi equipped) dumping jpegs to the folder which are automatically uploaded to the ipad.

I have been using Transmit (and tried Cyberduck as well), and have had no success in getting the above to work, either with my own automator workflow and applescript folder actions, or with the above SnitchTransmit4Upload.scpt. I have had partial success using a Transmit ftp upload droplet -- which works fine on its own, but not when linked to a folderaction. A common error is that the scripts attempt to reconnect to the ipad, which only allows one connection at a time. Or, the folder actions / workflows appear to run, but, no image is uploaded (even adding delays).

Has anyone had any success?
