Postby Stan_in_Sweden » Fri Dec 02, 2011 10:47 pm

I am not quite clear if I must have access to wi-fi to send a photo from my Nikon D7000 with eye-fi pro-x2 to my iphone 4 ??

Hi Stan,

No - you don't need Wi-Fi access if your Eye-Fi card supports Direct Mode (which yours does!).

Transfer of data from my Nikon D7000/eye-fi pro to my Iphone4 works beautifully when i am in the vincinity of wi-fi network. However, there is no way I can make this work 'ad-hoc' i.e. without wi-fi. Pressed 'manual' on your home-page and came to a discussion group!?! Considering the hefty price of your app one could expext some kind of proper manual where you step by step outlined the settings of your app to work with e.g. an eye-fi pro card and an iphone4 via 'ad-hoc'

Hehe, 2008: the App Store was introduced - and $16 became a "hefty price" for software ;)

I believe what you're looking for is the post at the absolute top of the Eye-Fi section of the forum: Eye-Fi Direct Mode setup guide

Sorry to bother you but after writing below item it now works beautifully (without the password) so this bit in the instructions seems to be unneccessary
Thanks for help

Thanks for links to valuable info below. However there is still a snag. when I come to point 8 below 'the eye-fi shall now appear in the iphone list of wi-fi-networks' this works fine and i can see the eye-fi-card with a padlock and signal-strength etc. The next step 'put in the password' does not work, No matter how much I tap this item I never get a new window enabling me to put in the password ?! Hence the card cannot
connect with the iphone. What can be wrong?

Eye-Fi Direct Mode setup guide

1. Insert your card into your computer and open the Eye-Fi Center. (At least version 3.3)
2. Click the little gear to the right of your card to set it up.
3. On the "Direct mode" tab check "Enable Direct Mode".
4. Depending on your workflow, drag the sliders farther to the right..
5. Click the Save button.
6. Go into the Settings app on your iPad/iPhone/iPod touch and tap "Wi-Fi" to see the list of available wireless networks.
7. Back in the Eye-Fi Center, click "Start Direct Mode Network".
8. You should now see your Eye-Fi appear on the network list. Tap it! And put in the password that you see in the Eye-Fi Center.
9. The iPad/iPhone/iPod touch now remembers the device, and will automatically connect to it, if there's no other wireless networks around.

Hmm.. That's strange..

What if you try tapping the blue arrow to the right of the Eye-Fi network and then press "Forget this network" - just in case it's saved some bad info earlier. Then you should be able to get some kind of feedback from the Eye-Fi network when tapping it again.

If that doesn't help, try checking out the excellent Eye-Fi forums and see if anyone is having a similar problem.
