Nikon D2Xs, WT-2A and Aluratek CDM530AM

Postby dcarbophoto » Thu Feb 16, 2012 6:08 am

Hi All,

is ANYONE using this exact set up ? I have tried everything I can think of at least a dozen times ! I have been to Robs site, read all the tips and checked this forum and I still cannot get the set up to work with shutter snitch at all ! Ipad sees router just fine, WT-2A gets FTP error or not found messages. Any help out there ? I may be missing something obvious...and at this point my head is going to explode so I probably am !

Regards,

D,
Question for you, can you access ShutterSnitch via FTP from a computer using that setup? I am not familiar with that router but some routers block, or limit, the ability for devices to communicate across them directly (i.e. not going through the web first) in thier settings. Also is there a firewall that is "on" on the router?

Are you inside a collection when the WT tries to connect? And are you using the correct username (snitch) and password (your super user password in ShutterSnitch)?

Yes, ShutterSnitch starts an FTP server on the iPad that you can connect to.

If you type ftp://<username, default is snitch>:<ShutterSnitch super user password>@<iPad IP address>:26000 into a browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer) connected to the same network as your iPad, you should be able to see the contents of the collection you're currently inside.

When you enter a collection, ShutterSnitch will tell you the IP for a couple of seconds (at the top of the screen).

An example could be:

ftp://snitch:12345@192.168.1.15:26000

Note that the server is only active when you're inside a collection.

Ok ......I got the laptop to connect to shuttersnitch like you said ....something strange happened though...shuttersnitch was listening to 192.168.123.100 originally....so i typed that in my browser and got nothing....when i looked back at shuttersnitch it was listening to 192.168.123.102....i put that in my browser and it connected.

I am trying to connect with the wt-2a but keep getting ftp error on the camera AND it seems that the listening IP keeps changing on shuttersnitch ?....does this make sense ? should i set the ipad to STATIC for IP ?

D

Going on shoot now (sadly without shuttersnitch)..will check in later today ! thanks for your help

Usually routers stick to one specific IP per device - but they can change, perhaps if they run out of battery or are reset in some other way.

Try seeing if it won't stick with .102 from now on. And remember to change your WT settings to have it connect to the .102 address. (step 2i in the guide)

If it changes again, you could try forcing a static IP for the iPad. Such as 192.168.123.150 and see if that works. ..again, remember to change the IP on the WT.

I fire up router then Ipad, open shuttersnitch and create a collection, verify listening IP is 192.168.123.100 and fire up Camera with WT-2A confirm 192.168.123.100 on TCP/IP and FTP password set to snitch , port set to 26000 .

I turn on Wireless lan on in camera and get Connecting to FTP message in camera with full 5 bars of signal - then I get FTP Error on camera display - go back to IPAD and listening IP has changed to 192.168.123.101.

I forced static IP on IPAD and get FTP Error on camera again, this time the IPAD IP stays the same however, I still cant connect. Any Ideas ? could it be a folder issue ? I have tried on camera creating a shuttersnitch folder, using "home" folder, leaving it blank and inserting a /

seems like it should work...not sure why it doesnt...any Ideas ?

If I use the wt-2a connection wizard I get a "unable to locate server" message

I USE A WIRELESS ROUTER DEDICATED TO THE WT2 AND THE IPAD, SO I CAN GO ONE LOCATION...
ROB GALBRIETH SUGGESTED SEVERAL I USE ZAPLINK ABOUT 85.00

DX2+WT2+iPAD SETUP

this is my exact set up
WT 2
WIRELESS
wt ssid = DEFAULT

SETTINGS
TCP/IP
ADDRESS 192.168.123.101 (WT2)
MASK 255.255.255.000

CHECK USE GATE WAY
192.168.123.254

CHECK ENABLE DNS
192.168.123.254

FTP
SERVER ADDRESS 192.168.123.100 (ipad)
PORT 2600

USER ID snitch (SAME AS SHUTTER SNITCH ID)
PASSWORD 01234546789 (SAME FOR IPAD)

CHECK HOME FOLDER

IPAD SETTINGS
AIRPLANE MODE ON
DEFAULT

YOU MAY HAVE TO USE STATIC TO SET TO YOUR ROUTER 192.168.123.100/GATEWAY255.255.255.000
BUT MY IPAD FINDS THE ROUTER AUTOMATICALLY...
THATS ALL I KNOW...HOPE IT HELPS...
AND ALL THIS DEPENDS ON IF YOU USE A COMCAST/ATT ROUTER...THEY TEND TO ASSIGN DIIFERENT ADDRESS FORMATS IE192.168.1.68 ETYC..

Got It ! John you are a genius ! ty for sending me your settings...I was assigning the TCP/IP the same address as the FTP ....after looking at your settings i realized it should be 192.168.123.101...made the change and it works great. COMPLETELY DUE TO MY NOT UNDERSTANDING SETTINGS !!! Shuttersnitch was not the problem...I was !

Ty to the developer for responding insanely fast to my post as well....Im a fan for life !

Happy Shooting
