New Ipad (ipad 3)

Postby Yann037 » Sat Mar 24, 2012 3:16 am

Hi, just bought the new Ipad and was wondering when there will be an upgrade for that version of the ipad? I shoot with the 5d mkIi and send small jpg to shuttersnitch, I had no problem with Ipad 1 but with the new one it is really buggy and it lags alot when scrolling trough the pictures.

By the way it is an awesome app!!

Thank you!

The current version in the app store is updated for the new iPad. Can you please go into more detail on what exactly is buggy and what specifically you mean about it lagging when scrolling through pics. How many pics are in that album? What are you using to send the JPGs to ShutterSnitch?

I also use the 5D mkII and send only small JPGs to the new iPad and I haven't had any issues using either Eye-Fi or the camera connection kit.

It does'nt matter how many pictures I have in the album, when I swipe between pictures it lags, sometime it takes 2 or 3 seconds before showing the picture, sometimes it crashes and other time there is an overlay of another picture appearing on the picture when i try to zoom. I use the Canon wft-e4 II for sending my pictures to the ipad. Like I said, I also have the ipad 1 and been using this app for more than a year without any problems so that's why I tought the app was not optimized for the new ipad..

Thank you

Have you tried restarting the iPad? That will will eliminate it being an out of memory issue. Can you upload the crash logs (instructions here: http://www.ondemandworld.com/how-to-find-crash-logs/) so that The Brew can take a look at why the app crashed please.

That's weird what you are seeing. You should be seeing an increase in speed due to the iPad's upgraded processor. If you can post the crash logs that should help to get to the bottom of this quickly.

Yes, I'd love to see some crash logs. I'm still waiting for my own 3rd gen. iPad, but from what I hear from my lucky new-iPad-owning beta testers, it should work just fine.

BUT I also hear that it's a little more sluggish on the new one - probably because of the quadrupling of pixels it has to handle (before displaying them on the screen). I promise I'll be looking into optimizing this!

Also, in case it's the cached images from a restored regular-iPad ShutterSnitch installation, that are causing these problems, try typing this into the address bar in Safari on your new iPad:

shuttersnitch://?clearCache=1

That'll open ShutterSnitch and clear the old cache files. It'll take a little while to re-create the cache files when viewing the collection, but once that's done. Things should be smooth again.

Hi thank you for your input!! I have uninstalled the app and re-installed it, i have done some testing and so far it is working smoothly. I am disapointed by the new ipad, I tought it would be alot faster than that, when I zoom in from a 5D MKII small jpg it takes a long time to render all of the image, probably due the resolution of the screen.. but anyways thanks for your quick response!!

I am a professional fashion photographer and I can tell you that your app have completely changed the way that I work on set, my clients just LOVE your app!!!

Thank you very much!!

Thanks :) You just made my day!

I'll be looking into optimizing for speed very soon. Perhaps there's a way to make the rendering faster.

Thanks guy for sharing the useful information, so that I can set up my 5DM2 + WFT-E4II to ShutterSnitch smoothly...
Is that any way for me to connect my camera to New Ipad with WiFi ( Adhoc ) for ShutterSnitch & still able to connect to internet to share photos to facebook with 3G?

Not in ad-hoc mode, no.

Apps only get access to one network connection.

That connection is prioritized by the system like this: First Wi-fi then the Personal Hotspot and lastly the mobile data network.

So if you need Internet access with only an iPad and your camera handy, you'll need a Verizon "New iPad" (as far as I remember they allow the Personal Hotspot feature - check with the carrier before you buy, don't take my word for it..).
You would then start the Personal Hotspot and connect to it with your WFT (not ad-hoc) and there you go, Internet access!
