Nikon D4 + WT-5 issues

Postby kidago » Mon May 28, 2012 8:18 pm

I had my Nikon D4 + WT5 combo working beautifully with Shutter Snitch for a few weeks. At this point nothing will connect - I've tried creating new profiles from scratch, resetting the ipad, tried it on the iPhone, ect and I get nothing but connection errors. I have followed every instruction carefully, and had this working correctly for a while until it just stopped working on the ipad and iphone out of nowhere, possibly around the last shuttersnitch update. Please let me know what I can do to fix this ASAP, I bought the WT-5 EXCLUSIVELY to work with snitch and right now I have a useless piece of $800 plastic!

Thanks in advance ;)

Hi Matt,

You're the only on who've reported an issue, so I'm pretty confident it's not a problem with ShutterSnitch. Let's take it from the top:

What kind of setup are you using - ad-hoc or infrastructure?

Can you connect to ShutterSnitch via a web browser? (From a computer on the same wireless network as the iPad is on, type in the address: ftp ://snitch:YourSuperUserPasswordInShutterSnitch@TheIPAddressYouSeeWhenYouEnterACollection:26000 - example: ftp://snitch:123@192.168.1.10:26000 ..be sure you're inside a collection when you try this.)

Thanks for the quick reply!

I can access shuttersnitch via my FTP client - using my regular wireless router connection I use in my office.

I can get the iPad to connect to the D4's wireless network but once I open shuttersnitch and a collection, the WT-5 says connection failed. However I can connect with the WT-5 to my computer via HTTP mode.

Do you have any suggestions?

OK, so ShutterSnitch is fully reachable in infrastructure mode. And it sounds like it's the ad-hoc connection to/from the WT-5 that fails.

Could you tell me what your settings are for the static IP, subnet mask, and router? (point 3b in the guide).

Double check that the static IP is the same for the FTP server in the WT-5 setup. While you're in there, double check that the port is 26000 and that the username and password is correct.

If things should have gone bad in the iPad wifi network settings, you can try tapping the "Forget this Network" button (again, point 3b in the guide)) and reconnecting - remember to set up the IP details again.

Sorry for this delayed response, but I created a video showing exactly how I am setting up the camera and the ipad. Please have a look - when the connection fails I have a collection open in Snitch just as I did before. Thanks!

Nicely done!

When you set up the WT-5, you put in port no. 2600 for the FTP server, not 26000. So you're missing a 0.

Also, is **** the super user password in ShutterSnitch? (if so, good :)

The port number was it! I knew it had to be something stupid-simple. Thats why I made that video, I've been seeing the same thing over and over and I wouldnt have caught it, and I knew you guys would. Great work, love the app, keep it up! Thanks!
