Thanks for that very thorough answer. This is a terrific piece of software and an absolute must-have for a mobile workflow. It's certainly worth $2.99 a month to keep you working on bug fixes and updates, so I'll subscribe ASAP.

I'm another one who would love to see code replacements as I still have to use my macbook with Photo Mechanic at sports events.

Happy to pay the subscription as its an awesome app. Keep up the good work :)

I’m unable to restore my purchase and can email a receipt showing I paid £13.99 on 25 October 2015. For some reason at the time of purchase my Apple ID was logged in using my .me not my .mac email and if logging in using .me, it automatically changes to my .mac once logged in, so I cannot restore the purchase.

ETA: I’ve tried changing my Apple ID to .me, however, still not able to restore, says I have no Active Subscription.

Just to clear things up, you can be one of two kinds of customer:

* You bought the app before version 4.3 and don't need a subscription to use it, but only have access to features introduced before 4.3 and the add-ons you bought (Video Playback, Image Adjustments, Metadata Editing).
* You downloaded it for free at version 4.3 or later and then need a subscription to use it. With a subscription you have access to everything.

You've bought it before 4.3 which means if you do a restore, it'll restore any add-ons you've bought and any active subscription. If you don't have an active subscription you'll see the message you mention. As an existing pre-4.3 customer you don't get subscribed automatically (that would be bad - since you've never accepted to pay a monthly amount).

You can either subscribe to gain access to everything or you can tap the 'No thanks' button at the top if you're going through the initial start-up guide.

Hello,

I've bought Shuttersnitch back in 2015 and haven't used it much since then. A few months back I used it again at a wedding and it said something about a subscription and a test period. Because I hadn't much time I just clicked on ok and it worked. Two weeks ago on New Year's Eve I wanted to use it again, but now I had to buy a subscription in order to get it back to work.

According to this thread I shouldn't need a subscription because I bought it in 2015, but it's wrong. What do I need to do to get my working version back?

Thanks in advance,

Dino

Don't worry, it's not wrong. I will never make a change that takes away the functionality of the pre-subscription version.

A few things that could have been confusing:

* If you did a clean install, the initial setup screen says that ShutterSnitch is subscription based and "here's your subscription choices". But if you bought it prior to going subscription-based, you can just tap the "No thanks" button in the top right-hand corner to move on.
* The way I've transitioned is to show all the functionality in the interface and if you tap anything that was added after going to subscriptions, you'll be presented with the 'subscribe' screen.

* While I was struggling to see how to survive *without* going to subscriptions, I tried to see if selling extra functionality as in-app purchases would keep me afloat (as you see, it couldn't).
If you bought one of those (Video-playback, Advanced Metadata Editing, Image Adjustments) you can tap the "Restore" button when the subscriptions screen comes up to regain access to the ones you bought.

Let me know if you have a more specific example of what's not working.

Hi TheBrew,

now three years later and I want to use your app again for a wedding next month, but it still won't work without a subscription.

The 2,99€ subscription for a month won't kill me now and I'll gladly buy it, but I am still curious why it won't let me use the pre-subscripton features.

Thanks in advance,

If you bought the app before it went subscription based, you'll see a "No Thanks" button in the top right-hand corner on the subscribe-screen. Tap that, and you can use all the pre-subscription features.

If you don't see the "No Thanks" button, try tapping the "Restore" button at the bottom to force iOS to get your purchase history.

It goes without saying that you must have purchased ye olde ShutterSnitch with the same Apple ID that you're currently logged in with.
