Problem solved (but I do have a question, below :) )!!!
The iPad with SS is used to display the photos in the booth. I then also use Flashairsync to copy them from the card to a folder on my Mac, for printing.
So, here's the workflow I've come up with:
The pictures from the booth actually work best in square format, but my camera can't shoot square, so......
1) In SS I display the shots full screen in slideshow, with a 100% opaque overlay that has a transparent square centre section, and my instructions in the space on either side. That makes the shots look as if they are shot in square format, even though they're not.
2) On the Mac, I have a folder action set to crop each shot to square as it arrives, ready for printing.
That way, to the user the shots will look the same both on screen and printed, AND I get some space to add my instructions.
The only issue is that Flashairsync isn't 100% reliable, and often "forgets" to copy a new file over (it's recoverable every time, but requires manual intervention). So, I'd love to be able to do the whole thing via SS. Is there any way to do that WITHOUT using passthrough mode on the card and connecting the card and SS to the same access point, because not every venue will have wifi, and even if they do I'm not in control of the quality.
If not, might it work to put a wifi router inside my booth, to connect the iPad, the card and my Mac to, even if it's not connected to the internet?
Basically, I can solve my display issue, but can't get my head around the simplest and most reliable way to connect it all up!
