Display time for newest image

I'm seriously considering Shuttersnitch, but it's a little expensive to just give it a try! Can you therefore answer a quick question re a feature I need please:

When a new photo is taken, I know it's automatically transferred and displayed, but is it possible to limit how long it's displayed for? For a booth application, I want each new image to display for only 10 seconds or so, with the screen then returning to black, or a grid of thumbnails, or best of all, a default image I choose beforehand.

Cheers,

Mark

In the default browsing mode ShutterSnitch doesn't change away from a photo unless a new one comes in.

The option that closest matches what you're looking for, would be to kick off a slideshow with a duration of 10 seconds per photo. When in slideshow mode, the latest incoming photo is automatically queued to be the next photo shown.

@TheBrew, I've bought it now, and it's great! It's even got one option that's given me an idea for a new feature for my booth, but I'm not sure I can use it in exactly the way I want to:

I'd like to have booth instructions and the slideshow show up on screen at the same time. Using the image overlay feature I could easily have my instructions on top of each photo, but is there any way to show them outside the image area? What I'm thinking is that if the overlay were bigger than the photo in pixel size, that could work, BUT although the overlay can appear bigger than the photo in the browser, it seems to resize to the photo dimensions in slideshow. Is there any way around that?

If the above can work, I'd need to set an action to resize my photos as they arrive, because even the smallest size my camera can take would be too big. But, what are the dimensions of "small, medium and large", and would the resizing be done before the new photo was shown in the slideshow?

Thanks,

Mark

No resizing necessary - just make sure that tools-toolbar-button -> Image overlays -> "Fit photo" toggle at the bottom is turned off and that settings -> ShutterSnitch -> "Display Image Masks on:" (way down at the bottom) -> Slideshows is turned on.

That would fix the image mask to the screen, not the photo and the slideshow would just be running unaffected behind that mask.

Thanks, but I don't think I explained what I'm after too well :)

Basically, I want the image to be smaller than the overlay in slideshow. I can do it in browser mode, but in slideshow your settings give me the overlay and image the same size, because the image expands to fill the screen no matter what size it is.

I'm trying to achieve something like this:

OK, that's not possible, no.

No problem. I'll play around with some overlays that go over the image but don't intrude on it too much :)

Problem solved (but I do have a question, below :) )!!!

The iPad with SS is used to display the photos in the booth. I then also use Flashairsync to copy them from the card to a folder on my Mac, for printing.

So, here's the workflow I've come up with:

The pictures from the booth actually work best in square format, but my camera can't shoot square, so......

1) In SS I display the shots full screen in slideshow, with a 100% opaque overlay that has a transparent square centre section, and my instructions in the space on either side. That makes the shots look as if they are shot in square format, even though they're not.

2) On the Mac, I have a folder action set to crop each shot to square as it arrives, ready for printing.

That way, to the user the shots will look the same both on screen and printed, AND I get some space to add my instructions.

The only issue is that Flashairsync isn't 100% reliable, and often "forgets" to copy a new file over (it's recoverable every time, but requires manual intervention). So, I'd love to be able to do the whole thing via SS. Is there any way to do that WITHOUT using passthrough mode on the card and connecting the card and SS to the same access point, because not every venue will have wifi, and even if they do I'm not in control of the quality.

If not, might it work to put a wifi router inside my booth, to connect the iPad, the card and my Mac to, even if it's not connected to the internet?

Basically, I can solve my display issue, but can't get my head around the simplest and most reliable way to connect it all up!

No internet connection is needed. I'd buy a router, put it in the booth, and have the iPad, card, and Mac connect to each other via that. It's also a security-win to have it work on your own closed system.

If you want to avoid using Flashairsync, you can install ShutterSnitch Backup on your Mac and it'll automatically get the new photos after they're received in ShutterSnitch.
