Does iOS now allow backgrounded connections?

Postby syd » Tue Aug 15, 2017 1:07 am

I know that SN has needed to be in the foreground and the iPad to not sleep to maintain connections.
But I just read this about a music streaming server:
"2) “Preserve connection” to ensure streaming continues even when the iPeng app is backgrounded"

Could this mean that SN could also work in the background?

It's all a matter of politics. Apple allows music and location based apps to stay running in the background.

They won't allow ShutterSnitch to do so, even if it's a conscious choice of the user. I did my best to convince them, but no dice. :(

That's a real bummer.
Thanks for trying.
So for now, it's still just dim the screen and put a hard case cover on the front before putting it in your bag?

I saw a nice pelican case today for an iPhone. It has a "holster" which can be clipped onto the back or front, for SN use, clipping it on the front would protect the front screen from accidental taps when in the bag or on your belt:

Great. When (if) the iOS devices start getting OLED screens, I'll add a feature to turn the screen all black to save battery.

Oh, the silly hoops we have to jump through because of rules set in stone. :)
