Transcend Wi-Fi SD Card Firmware v1.5

Postby Matthew » Sat Jan 26, 2013 8:18 am

Apparently Transcend has released v1.5 of the firmware (archive includes installation instructions PDF):

http://shop.transcendusa.com/dl/Wifi_SD_v1_5.rar

This gets rid of the confusing "delete me" images for Internet mode and Direct Mode transfer setup. With the original v1.2, my Internet Mode settings weren't saving. Looks like they are now! Note that you can also configure the card directly by connecting to its Direct Mode access point and visiting http://192.168.11.254 in a browser (admin/admin is the default password). Saves time if you don't want to screw with the iOS/etc apps.

BTW, thank you for adding Transcend support to ShutterSnitch! I've constantly had Eye-Fi stability issues with Pentax, even with the camera auto-off disabled. Idling the camera for a few minutes or more will kill the feed, and in a photo shoot with a model I always end up dozens of photos behind. Looks like Transcend handles this really well.

I did see a couple of instances where bursting 4-5 photos at once would cause the last photo to not transfer until an additional photo was taken (i.e if I shot 5 photos at once, 4 would transfer, and the 5th would "dislodge" when I shot something else).

P.S. I don't think Transcend has posted this firmware to their website yet. I noticed it on their Amazon customer review replies here: http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Informa ... Descending (they're also posting a phone number and an email, so I'd highly encourage contact to let them know people are actually using this, especially with SnutterSnitch).

Thanks for the info Matthew!

It looks like the Transcend card only notifies about the two latest photos, and I think if one more sneaks in just as the notification goes out, it'll be "lost" until the next photo. In ShutterSnitch 2.8 I keep track of the file numbers and if some are missing, it'll download the missing range too.

But it looks like this implementation won't do the job. I'll be doing it in a new way in the upcoming version where I actually keep track of all the files on the card instead - any diffs are downloaded (good thing if you weren't inside a collection when you snapped a photo). And the notifications will just be used as a trigger for checking for changes. Besides that I'll do an occasional check to see if a notification missed something. Thanks for the feedback!

I have upgraded to the new firmware 1.5 and I have now a auto-connect to the card on my iPad however it takes still more than three scans before the connection is made.

update: I know why the first connection is that slow in general on a iPad
