Help and ask for help on Toshiba FlashAir card related problems

Sony A/R III

Postby fsanders » Sun Nov 26, 2017 2:43 pm

I got the new sony A/R III with two card slots. So the idea was to put my FlashAir car in one slot for JPG and the other card in the other slot for RAW.
This works for some pic but then always times out. Heres the protocol from one

My guess would be that it's the body of the camera that degrades the signal strength enough to cause these timeouts.

You could test this by putting the card in a card reader, move all the files onto your computer, then connect to it with ShutterSnitch and then copy the files back onto the card one by one, as if "the camera" was taking and saving the photo.

If that works fine, you'll know it's the signal strength. A Transcend Wi-Fi card would maybe be better - but those metal bodies on the Sony cameras can't be good for wi-fi signals.

If it still *doesn't* work, maybe you have a defective card? Or maybe there's a firmware update that could solve it?

I also found this in the net

17 OCTOBER 2017

Toshiba Memory Corporation To: Valued Customers, Toshiba Memory Corporation is informing our valued customers of a potential WPA2 wireless LAN protocol vulnerability with the Toshiba Memory FlashAirTM (“Product”) has been identified. This vulnerability is related to the generation and management of key information which is utilized for encrypting data. With this vulnerability there exists a possibility that the data transmitted between the Product and wireless LAN devices such as smartphone can be compromised.

The WPA2 is used widely for wireless LAN. We have discovered that this behavior exists when the FlashAirTM W-04 (“Software Update Affected Product“) is used in “Internet pass thru” mode. Therefore, please do not connect the Software Update Affected Product* using the wireless LAN “Internet pass thru” mode until the software has been updated (mentioned below). To correct this issue we are now in the process of addressing this vulnerability via a software update which is expected to be released on or before the end of December, 2017. Please update the software when it is released. Even if “Internet pass thru” mode is disabled on the Software Update Affected Product*, the device connected to it could exhibit this vulnerability and transmitted data could still be compromised. We also ask customers to check this vulnerability of the Devices prior to connecting to the FlashAirTM W03, FlashAirTM W-02 and FlashAirTM Class6 as well as the Software Update Affected Product. About the vulnerability of the Devices, please contact to Devices’ customer and/or technical support.

If you have any questions about this vulnerability of the Product, please contact your local technical support representative and we will be happy to support you. For information regarding how to reach your local technical support representative, please visit http://www.toshibapersonalstorage.net/w ... /index.htm.

Software Update Affected Product Information

Can this cause the problem?

The WPA2 vulnerability doesn't mean it won't work, no. It's just a warning that the wireless network can be compromised by a nearby hacker.

But the issue you're experiencing looks more like bad signal / an unstable card.

Are you running the latest firmware on the card? I've hear that the latest W.04 are very fast - but at the cost of range / signal strength. Is it a W.04?

Yes its a W.04. I biught it for speed. I have no problems with a Eye-Fi pro X2. Looks like I have to stay with the lower speed.
