Morning Brian (long time no speak)...

Just wondered about the Sony transfer thingy... I am just about to move over to them and wondered if I needed to keep/buy a new Mobi card.

I have looked at some vids and noticed that the Sony A7rii has ability to connect to a network. I also noticed that there is a Sony connection in the set up on Shuttersnitch. Does these now mean we have the ability to push photos to the app like an eye-fi card?

If not what is the limitations?

Cheers,

Jayce

If you read the link in the message above, you'll see that it's sadly not a replacement for a wi-fi card.

You can't have photos pushed as you take them. Turning on the wi-fi, turns off the camera functionality.

Thanks for the fast reply Brian. I did see the link but thought (well hoped) that with it being a year on from the post it was now possible...

Cheers,

I'm sure that the developer knows all this but I'll post this just in case as I dream of using shuttersnitch to access images as they are taken.

Both guys seem happy to talk about their work here:

Here's the gphoto2 sites too:
http://www.gphoto.org
https://github.com/gphoto/
http://gphoto-software.10949.n7.nabble.com

The thing that both the devs of these apps are pointing out is that they start and stop the connection to examine differences on the camera then request the new images as sony cameras can't shoot and transfer images at the same time to give a 'faux' realtime transfer.

It'd be interesting to see of there's a way to use the TP-link MR3040 with the openwrt firmware and gphoto2 2.5.9+ (which supports the sony A7r2) with the camera connected to the USB port to allow the camera to think it's connected to a PC as the A7r2 will merrily transfer and operate in hand as normal whilst tethered to Capture One. I've tried this with an earlier version of gphoto2 and it works with my canon 5ds probably because of it's use of standard transfer protocols. Sony may not be so generous with their camera software.

(Interested to know if anyone has managed to get gphoto2 2.5.9+ compiled for openwrt or LEDE firmwares though as it's beyond my abilities which would allow this to be tested. I've asked on the openwrt forum and had no reply as yet.)

Edit: Actually this is a little off topic as I'm discussing the A7r2.
