Connecting R5 to two iPads

Postby Axl123 » Sat Jul 22, 2023 1:58 pm

Hello friends
Is it possible to connect 2 iPads to one camera?
Put shuttersnitch on every computer
And the camera will broadcast to both?

Thank you

I don't have an R5, but I'm pretty sure you can connect to it via a wi-fi network, correct? (Not just a network the camera creates.)

If so, what you'll want to do is, have everything set up working as usual in a regular 1-iPad to camera connection through a wi-fi router - but also set up the iPad to perform an action to export any incoming files to a Location. That location being a WebDAV location that uploads to your other iPad.

If you feel that's an option and you need more details on setting that up, just let me know and I'll elaborate. :)

Thank you!
sounds interesting
If it's not complex - it would be great if you write down a detail

Alright!

* First make sure both iPads are on the same wi-fi network that your camera will also join.
* Get your main iPad working with your camera over that wi-fi network (if you haven't already).
* Once you know it's working, you can turn off the camera, put it to the side, and start setting up the automatic transfer to the second iPad:

* On your main iPad, enter a collection that has a photo in it. Then enter selection mode (the toolbar button with a check-mark). If a photo isn't selected, select one. Then tap the toolbar button of a box with an arrow going out of it and pick "Other Location" and add a new WebDAV location with the following values:
- 'HTTP'.
- Help your future self by giving it a good Description such as 'Second ShutterSnitch' or 'ShutterSnitch on <whatever you call your second iPad>'.
- To get the value for the Host field, open ShutterSnitch on your second iPad and enter a collection. At the top of the screen you should see a drop-down showing you the IP address of the iPad: four numbers separeted by periods. Example: 192.168.1.2 - the information goes away after a few seconds, but you can make it pop down again by tapping the title portion of the toolbar. That address is what you need to put into the Host field.
- Port is 8080 (unless you've changed the defaults on the second iPad - if you have, you would know :).
- Username is 'snitch' (unless you've changed the defaults on the second iPad, again you would know).
- Password is the superuser password you set when you first set up ShutterSnitch on the second iPad.
- You can leave the rest of the settings on their defaults.

That's the setup. Now, make sure your second iPad still inside a collection in ShutterSnitch and ready to receive files. On your main iPad, tap back to the Location list, tap 'Done' to end editing, and then tap the WebDAV location you just set up - and the photo you selected previously should transfer to the other iPad ..if everything is set up correctly. If not, go through the steps above until you spot whatever is not set up right. If you're unsure if you've changed the username and port defaults, they're at the top of the ShutterSnitch Settings (on your second iPad).

* Assuming you've got a location that'll transfer files to the second iPad, it's time to make it do so automatically when a new photo is received:
- On your main iPad, exit the selection mode and tap the gear-button in the toolbar. That'll open the Action Tasks.
- Tap 'Edit' and add a new task.
- Call it 'Transfer to second iPad' or something better.
- Tap the '+' button and pick 'Export to location', then pick the WebDAV location you just set up. You'll see a few extra options once you've picked it, but you don't need to change any of them. Tap back a few times and press 'Done' to end editing.
* You now have an Action Task that'll perform the export. On the top right, you'll see a slider. Drag that slider down so it's pointing to the Action Task you just set up. That means every time a new photo is received, that task will be performed.
