Alternative to WFT-E6 for 1D X and C - HAME MPR-A1

FYI, this may interest 1D X and 1D C owners as an alternative to the WFT-E6 transmitters:

I've recently switched from Nikon to Canon, and the HAME works perfectly fine on the 1D X/C as it did on the Nikon D4.

I found the WiFi a bit underpowered and you could also look at the TP-Link MR-3040 which is bigger has a battery but for all a decent antenna inside.

Thanks for the tip.
Does it play well with the Personal Hotspot from an iPhone? Either in Bridge or WISP mode?

Can't help you on this. I think you better connect to a iPhone to the TP-Link MR-3040 in AP mode.

So how are you using the device? What's your config?

Yes I have the device but not camera with a network connector nor a Apple device that is capable of Apple created hotspots. I use it for my local network as I used the Hame A1 but the last one has no strong WiFi signal.

I just typed a bit in Google and that came up with the following link that will give you more information;

BTW... this link here {2012} is still solid as a rock...
Canon 1Dx and WFT-E6.
No extra gear required which is a plus.
Works great with iPhone 6 and my iPad...

Just don't do the encryption:
""Advanced settings -> Encryption: WEP""

Thanks ;)

use the TP-link MR3040 device and have to say it is fantastic for what I use it for. It has been a device that I always use for numerous reason for which I will list below.

1) It is battery operated for in the field use
2) The battery is changeable so that if it dies I can replace, or even replace in the field
3) It is USB powered, so that I can charge from a Macbook or a powerbank
4) If connects to 3g/4g dongles. Yes a little clumsy, but means that I can have multiple carriers for bad areas
5) IF you have more than one you can use more dongles which either speeds up the process, or it will swap between the carriers for signal
6) I can connect devices to it such as ipad, iphone, tablet, and desktop (no limit in numbers, just limited by transfer speeds)

It works with any wireless device that creates infrastructures, so the WFT, WTF, Eye-Fi and all others. What it won't do is connect the camera via usb to use this device in place of a transmitter. Now it does have a LAN port and I know some cameras have one (such as the Nikon D4), but I have not tried this, however it should work.

Hope this helps

THANK YOU Barrie. I wasted hours today trying to get ShutterSnitch to work with a Canon 1Dx, WFT-E6 and iPad Air 2. The trick apparently was to NOT follow the instructions. Clearly something has changed since 2012 and it would be nice if the instructions reflected this.

With "Advanced settings -> Encryption: none", I am now up and running.
