Nikon D4 + WT5 + iPad Air 2 running IOS 8.1

Postby Michael » Fri Oct 24, 2014 6:15 pm

I just migrated from my old iPad to a new iPad Air 2 running 8.1 and wanted to confirm this combination (D4 + WT5 + Ad Hoc Mode) IS working with Shuttersnitch for any having difficulty.

It wasn't without hiccups though. For whatever reason, in Ad Hoc mode, I had to use Open Authentication rather than my usual encrypted. When I tried encrypted, Shuttersnitch never saw the FTP according to the traffic inspector. So I thought I'd try it as Open instead, and that did the trick. Might be worth a try for those struggling.

Hey everyone,

Just purchased a WT-5 and I'm struggling to set it up with my iPhone running iOS 8.1. It connects to my phone but keeps giving me an FTP Error message. I have never set one of these things up before and would greatly appreciate some help...

Thanks,
Andrew

1. What kind of setup are you running: Ad-hoc (iPhone joining a wi-fi network the WT creates) or infrastructure (WT and iPhone join a regular wi-fi network)?

2. If you go into the ShutterSnitch settings and scroll all the way to the bottom, you'll see a Traffic Inspector option. Turn that on and enter a collection. Then try having the WT connect again. What does the Traffic Inspector say?

(Side note to any D4 + WT-5 owners reading along: Pretty please, with sugar on the top, could you help out the community by writing a post on how to set up an ad-hoc and/or infrastructure connection to ShutterSnitch? So many ask, and I have nowhere to point them to. All I can do is give my best guess and guide from the old WT-4 setups.)

Ad-Hoc. I'm not really sure why it's showing Iphone6.... It's a 5s

You can turn off PTP/IP off in the ShutterSnitch settings if you're only using the WT-5.

Any reason you've changed the FTP port to 2600 ? (The default is 26000) Double check that it's the same port you've set up on the WT.

It also looks like the Static IP hasn't been set up for the Nikon ad-hoc network. Interestingly the same exact issue as in this post but on a Canon WFT. I wonder if that's going to be the iOS 8 problem. (There's always a new issue with ad-hoc each time they do a .0 release. Ad-hoc = asking for trouble.)
In his case it was authentication related - and so is the first post from Michael in this thread. So make sure you use Open auth as he points out.

Very weird. I tested everything in the thread about the Canon transmitter to no avail. My authentication has been set to open since i created the network on my phone.

When I look at shuttersnitch on my phone it says not network connection while my camera shows it's connected. could it be an FTP address problem? Any suggestion on what to set it to?

Connecting to a network is one thing, obtaining or setting up your identity on it is another. From the log you pasted, you're connected, but your iPhone hasn't yet gotten an identity.

That's what you need to set up via the Settings -> Wi-Fi -> "Nikon" -> tap (i) -> Static -> set up IP, subnet mask.

Which guide are you using? (This one? - identity setup in step 3b)

It's 3AM here now, and I need some sleep - so expect a delay for my next reply. ;)

I just "forgot" the wifi on my iPhone and deleted the profile on my camera and redid everything. Seems to be working perfectly. Will continue to test throughout the week.

I would like to thank you for all your help, I wish more places had customer service like yours. Already telling all my friends about it haha.

Thanks again,
Andrew
