Access Denied message on FTP Connection

Postby maxmehta » Mon Dec 05, 2016 3:54 pm

Hello,

I need help with transferring images from the shuttersnitch app to FTP. I created a FTP connection by using my router and connecting it to my external hard drive and then going into the router settings and configuring the hard drive to be used as a FTP drive. I also created a shared folder which gives read write access to the drive. However, when I enter the details of this FTP connection into the shuttersnitch app, I receive the following message "access denied to remote resource". However, I am able to connect via a FTP app on my iphone and also my laptop to the same connection. Can you please advise me on what I may be missing here?

Thanks,

Aman

You could try turning on the Traffic Inspector (all the way at the bottom of the ShutterSnitch settings) and see if it gives you better details on what happens when you try to connect.

You can move the logging-window around by dragging the window title. Feel free to copy and paste the log here.

Looks like a routing issue. You could try changing the FTP transfer mode to extended passive by typing this into Safari on the iOS device running ShutterSnitch:
Code: Select all
shuttersnitch://?EPSV=1

I don't think you'd be getting the *exact* same error messages - could you paste a new log?

Also, can you confirm that the FTP server you're trying to reach runs on port 21?

You're getting an "access denied" error. Are you sure you typed the username / password correctly?

Do you have access to the server itself, so you can check the FTP log and see what it says?

I have checked the paswword 3-4 times to make sure that its correct. Since, the hard drive is set up as a FTP connection through my wireless router, I am not sure of how to see the logs for the FTP.

I just tried seeing how far I could get trying to upload a photo to it - but since I don't know your password I just get to a "Login denied (67)" message from your server. But it's alive - and a different error message than the "Access denied to remote resource (9)" that you get. Hm.

Does it work for you if you turn off the "Put in coll. folder" FTP setting?

If you're up for it, perhaps you could set up a temporary account for me that I could get a username and password for to test
