Eyefi Mobi Pro setup

Postby TheBrew » Mon Mar 30, 2015 5:25 pm

Update May 14th 2019: See https://shuttersnitch.com/eyefikey for a guide on how to extract the card key(s) from a Keenai Desktop installation and adding them to ShutterSnitch.

*** Ignore these next paragraphs. They were written before we figured out how to obtain the keys ***

Follow this link for the guide on how to obtain and add the card key to ShutterSnitch.

To get your Eyefi Mobi Pro card transferring to ShutterSnitch, it needs to be added to your Eye-Fi account.

First, if you haven't already, get your card set up on your computer by installing the Eyefi Mobi Desktop application.

Once you have things working and photos transferring to your computer, close the Mobi application completely and install the Eye-Fi Center Desktop Software.

When it's installed, insert your card into your computer and the Eye-Fi Center application should detect it. Sign up or log into your Eye-Fi account.
Once you're signed up / logged in, the card should be added to your account. If you have more than one card, you can right-click the card in the left pane and choose to rename it. That'll make it easier to distinguish between them.

Now that it's added, you can open ShutterSnitch on your iOS device, go to the collection overview, tap the Options button and pick "Setup Guide". Then pick the "Eye-Fi card" option (*not* the "Eye-fi mobi card" option). Then sign into your account and your Mobi Pro card should be in the list. Turn on the switch to the right of it and you'll be ready to receive files when you're inside a collection.

You only needed the Eye-Fi Center to add the card / create an account, so you can uninstall that and just use the Mobi application on your computer from now on.

FYI, the protocol has changed slightly with additional parameters in the SOAP exchange for Mobi Pro. I noticed someone having issues with transferring to your app while successful with eyefi so that might be causing an issue. The new parameters won't impact receiving at all but sometimes receivers have issues.

Cheers

Thanks for the info!

I haven't heard from anyone having issues - do you have a link?

Are we talking about the SOAP communication between the card and the receiver or the talk between the receiver and the Eyefi server when setting up the receiver role?

Unortunately I am not able to see the Mobi Pro Card in the Eye-Fi Center software. I already tried it on two different macs, but the card didn't pop up. Unfortunately I chose the Mobi Pro over the X2 Pro as a replacement for the X2 Pro. I just cannot use the Mobi Pro with Shuttersnitch (which is the only reason I need those kind of cards for), when I am not able to connect it to Shuttersnitch via Eye-Fi Center. With Eyefi Mobi Desktop software, everything works fine, unless there's no possibility to use the card with Shuttersnitch. What else can I do? I already uninstalled and reinstalled both apps on tow Macbooks, but it doesn't work. Mobi Card's won't pop up in Eye-Fi Center app?

Do you have the card inserted into your computer when you open the Eye-Fi Center?

Also make sure you don't have the Eyefi Mobi application running on the computer at the same time.

Yes - I tried - but it doesn't matter. The card is not recognized. I just set up a new account. And it recognizes the orange x2 card but not the mobi pro. When I close the Eye-Fi Center and open the Mobi Desktop app, the card is recognized.

Hm. Sounds like Eyefi has put a stop to this option for new cards then. :(

I'll talk to them.

Fear not, you'll get it working with ShutterSnitch - it's just a question of how simple it'll be. It needs to be part of an app update and I'll post to this thread as soon as I have more concrete info.

...it's getting even weirder: When inserting the Mobi Pro card directly into the SD slot of my Macbook Pro and then opening Eye-Fi Center app, it says: The inserted card doesn't belong to this account and asks if I want to connect to another account. ... strange. Everything worked fine with the X2 cards...

Hm. Hm. Strange indeed. They're moving away from the Eye-Fi Center with the Mobi cards however, so that it doesn't show up doesn't surprise me. (It actually surprised me that it was there at all in my case.)

By the way: If you intend to just use it in Direct Mode, it actually works without adding it in the Eye-Fi Center. Simply run the Setup Guide in ShutterSnitch and pick the Eyefi Mobi option.

Thanks for the hint. Direct mode doesn't work for me, because I use two cameras and two cards. My Setup with the X2 cards was like this: Only tagged/selected pictures were sent from my D750 cameras over the infrastructure of a mobile wifi hotspot to the Shuttersnitch app on my iphone. From there, they were sent to the ftp server of a news agency. So - as long as I'm able to send selected pictures into Shuttersnitch, erverything is fine! ;-) The wireles module of the D750 is not able to just send selected pictures (I mean the secure/key button). And the possibility of preselecting in the D750 and having those preselected fetched by opening/making up an album in Shuttersnitch, doesn't fit fast news shooting. So, what sounds like a poor man's WT-5 solution is indeed much more elegant, because there are no cables, no extra batteries, no two more UT-1/WT-5 units to lug around.
